Finding My Roots: How DNA, Culture and Ritual Shaped Who I Am
I didn’t realise I was searching… until I saw it reflected back at me.
It started with a feeling
I’ve always felt connected to something deeper.
To culture. To ritual. To the idea that there’s more beneath the surface of everyday life.
Feng Shui, energy, land — it’s how I live, how I build, how I see the world.
And I’ve always believed this:
Our ancestors walk with us.
The moment it clicked
I was watching Outlander.
And it wasn’t just the story — it was the connection.
The way they spoke about Scotland.
The way they felt it.
Lived it.
And I realised something uncomfortable:
I didn’t know where I was from.
My mum was always searching
Growing up, my mum was always trying to find pieces of our past.
Clues. Stories. Connections.
But there were gaps.
Things we just didn’t have answers for.
Then came DNA
Doing a DNA test didn’t give me everything.
But it gave me enough.
Enough to see patterns.
Enough to understand pieces of myself.
England. Ireland. Sweden. Scotland. Norway. Aboriginal.
Not labels.
Threads.
Why this changed everything
This wasn’t about claiming identity.
It was about understanding it.
Respecting it.
Learning from it.
And realising that so much of what we call “modern life” has disconnected us from it.
We’ve forgotten how to stay rooted
We move fast.
Too fast to sit in ritual.
Too fast to learn the old ways.
Even something as simple as a rosemary rinse —
once a practice, now a “trend”.
We take plants from their land, move them across the world,
and wonder why something feels off.
Because they belonged somewhere.
Just like we do.
Feet in the soil
I truly believe this:
We need our feet in the soil to grow.
Not just physically — but emotionally, culturally, spiritually.
When we understand where we come from,
we move through the world differently.
Why this lives inside my business
This isn’t separate from Cooper Delivered.
It’s the reason it exists.
Every product, every ritual, every idea —
it all comes back to this:
Connection.
Not copying culture.
Not claiming it.
Respecting it.
Learning from it.
Letting it shape what we create.
This is just the beginning
I’m still learning.
Still uncovering.
Still understanding.
And I always will be.
If you’re on that journey too — you’re not alone.
